The latest news:

July 4, 2008
Nothing beats a summertime road trip to visit family on the 4th of July. Gabi and I packed up the car and headed east to Ohio, stopping along the way to see great sights like the Arch of St. Louis and the (flooded) town of Hannibal, MO.

The new Stephenie Meyer book, The Host, is out. I connected with my buddies Amy, Carol, and YA author Alane Ferguson and drove up to Denver to get my copy signed.

The crowd consisted of nearly 1000 screaming fans. It was great to hear Stephenie talk about her amazing (and continuing) success!

I headed up to Denver tonight to attend a booksigning event of my friend, Lauren Myracle. Together with fellow authors Sarah Mlynowski and E. Lockhart, she’s written a wonderful new novel titled How to be Bad.

The signing was a lot of fun and gave us a chance to catch up!

The signing at the Milpitas Library went great! It was fun to meet with the librarians and talk to some of the kids...many of whom had read the book! Yay!

One of the open critique groups here in Colorado Springs has invited me to be this month’s moderator. Here’s the official announcement:

What do publishers want? Ronald Cree has it! Meet him at Open Critique!
I've gone through the most recent edition of Writers Market several times now, and do you know what I've noticed? Almost every publisher says they want multicultural writing.

What is Ronald Cree writing?
Mysteries about 14-year-old Gus Gonzalez--a Latino youth living in Southern California. The first book in the series is Desert Blood 10PM/9C.

Want to pick Ronald's brain? Come join us at Open Critique. This
month we meet on Wednesday the 27th, from 6:30-9pm. To RSVP or ask any questions, contact me at critique@ppwc.net. Remember that spaces are limited, so reserve your spot now!

I took a few days off and traveled down to Florida to visit with my good friend, Hans Christianson, who is preparing for his role as The Terminator at Universal Studios this spring. While there, we had a chance to visit the park and check things out firsthand.

We also hit up Busch Gardens in Tampa for some thrill rides! See our pictures here.

I just returned from a fun weekend in San Antonio, Texas, where I was able to see my good friend John Longoria rock a nightclub as the lead singer of Casetta. He was, as usual, awesome.

San Antonio was as beautiful as ever, and it was nice to be back, spending time with friends and visiting the city’s sensational landmarks, like the Alamo, Mi Tierra Restaurant, and the Riverwalk!

The “Other” Desert Blood

Desert Blood ARC

In 2001, when I began working on my book, I gave a lot of thought to what its title should be. After doing some snooping around on the Internet, I settled on a name that no one else was using and incorporated it into my story. I called it Desert Blood.

Imagine my surprise when, after selling the book to Simon & Schuster in January 2005,
I learned that author Alicia Gaspar de Alba had chosen the exact same title for her new mystery novel! Luckily, my editor decided to tweak my title just a bit anyway, renaming it Desert Blood 10pm/9c.

I have met Alicia a couple of times now, and we get a kick out of the coincidence. The Collective Consciousness of the Universe hard at work...

Be sure to stop by Alicia’s site at
www.desertblood.info for more details about her book!
